A spokesperson for President Jimmy Carter said Carter has been admitted into Emory University Hospital in Atlanta and will undergo a procedure on Tuesday to relieve pressure on his brain.

The former president's organization made the announcement in a tweet on Monday, adding that Carter's procedure will take place Tuesday morning.

President Carter was resting comfortably, and his wife, Rosalynn, was with him, she said.

This is a developing story.

"Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter has been released from Phoebe Sumter Medical Center".

Carter had to get stitches above his brow after falling at his ranch house in rural Plains, Georgia, on October 6.

Carter has fallen at least three times this year, and the first incident in the spring required hip replacement surgery. "But I had a number one priority and that was to come to Nashville and build houses", he reportedly told the crowd in Nashville, according to CNN. He was hospitalized briefly in 2017 for dehydration and was diagnosed with skin cancer in 2015.
