Wolverhampton Wanderers beat Aston Villa 2-1 in Sunday's Midlands derby with goals from Ruben Neves and Raul Jimenez taking them into the top eight in the Premier League.

Wolves started on they almost took the lead just five minutes into the game through Matt Doherty, who sent a tricky cross inside the box that hit the woodwork.

After the loss, Villa moved to the 17th spot withj 11 points, just three points away from relegation zone, ahead of their encounter against Newcastle United on the 25th of November.

The hosts continued to push forward and in the 28th minute, Raul Jiménez wasted a glorious chance when he received the ball in a risky zone and advanced towards the box, however, his left footed strike went wide. Tyrone Mings brought down Adama Traore on the right and Joao Moutinho squared his free kick to Neves to send in a low drive from 20 yards.

It was a hard afternoon for Villa from the moment they lost goalkeeper Jed Steer to injury after only five minutes.

Wolves dominated and the only surprise was it took them until almost halftime to go ahead, Neves giving replacement keeper Orjan Nyland no chance with a thumping drive.

Villa tried to exert some late pressure but their hopes were ended with six minutes left when Traore broke down the right and squared for Jimenez to roll in.
