The Tar Heels were led in scoring by freshman Cole Anthony.

But it didn't matter.

Shykeim Phillips and Jaylen Sims led the Seahawks with 12 points each, and Sims pulled down 12 rebounds.

Tar Heels are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games overall.

That didn't happen in Wednesday's opener when Anthony nearly singlehandedly carried the team by scoring 34 points in his first college game.

With the momentum on their side, the Tar Heels started off the fourth set strong.

Anthony finished Friday's game with 20 points and 10 rebounds, grabbing all of those boards on the defensive end of the floor. Despite his tough shooting night, Anthony played well.

With his father - former UNLV and National Basketball Association guard Greg Anthony - in the stands, the Atlantic Coast Conference preseason freshman of the year broke Rashad McCants' 17-year-old scoring record by a freshman in his first game and finished 12 of 24 from the field with six 3-pointers. The Broncos briefly closed within 22-17 before OR hit 3-pointers on three consecutive possessions to push the lead to 31-17.

"Obviously some guys can be disappointed in how they played because they didn't make some shots and maybe turned it over", UNC Wilmington coach C.B. McGrath said. The Seahawks shot 49% for the game from the floor.

"I always loved playing here", said Pierce, who surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his college career in the game.

He made five of his first six shots and his first three 3-pointers. They trailed 40-29 at halftime before UNC stretched the lead with a 10-0 burst.

That was all the Tar Heels really needed. They led 13-6 early and stayed in front for the rest of the night. The Tar Heels led by as many as 16 in the game.

After that, UNCW never got closer than nine points. Pierce finished with 18 and had 12 rebounds while Garrison Brooks also recorded his first career double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds in the win.

The Tar Heels' next game is at home against Gardner-Webb on November 15.

"My teammates got me a bunch of open looks tonight", Pierce said. It was a good sign for the Tar Heels after Anthony accounted for 43.5 percent of his team's points against Notre Dame.

And that has coach Roy Williams more than just a little concerned despite his team's second straight win to begin the season.

The Tar Heels left too many points at the the free throw line. The Seahawks out scored them 20 to 5 from the foul line.

Armando Bacot was hit in the face late in the first half.

"We've got to get more out of Andrew (Platek), we've got to get more out of Christian (Keeling), we've got to get more out of Leaky (Black)", Williams said.

7 UNC players played the majority of the minutes. The Tar Heels have better talent and will be a lot more physical then the Seahawks. He helped the Tar Heels reach a milestone - they earned their 700th ACC victory, the first program in the conference with that many wins.
