It's been the hit of the year, and it was kind of unexpected. Though we're not really counting the film's marketing costs in the budget, the production budget and the film's current box office haul make the movie one of Warner Brother's most profitable projects to date.

The new statistic is the latest in a long line of accolades the film is picking up - it's already the highest grossing R-rated movie ever, and has racked up the biggest October box office opening. The Warner Bros. and DCEU movie has crossed $900 million and has become the highest R-rated movie of all time.

The question now is whether future comic-book movies will go down this route, or stay as they are with big budgets, big names and big CGI.

Five weeks after its release, "Joker" is still breaking records. The total budget for the movie was a total of $62.5 million with the movie earning back nearly 15.3 times its budget.

Surpassing its predecessor "The Mask", the Todd Phillips directed film was confirmed to have grossed more than a $US 304.2 million in North America, and a whopping $US 957 million worldwide - and the film hasn't even finished its theatrical run. In a skewed way, Jokerrepresents every studio's dream, in that it's a mid-budget, 2-D title that's pulling top-tier blockbuster business without relying on China.

The Mast was made on a budget of $23 million and made $351 million.

This latest milestone is just the latest inJoker's list of oh so serious accolades; the film is also now the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever made, as well as the most successful film of De Niro's long career.
