Marca are reporting that Real Madrid are willing to pay a fee of around £25 million in order to sign Denmark worldwide during the January transfer window.

The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder was widely tipped for a move to the Bernabéu in the summer but Zinedine Zidane's preference to hold out for Paul Pogba - a move which never materialised - saw the Danish worldwide miss out.

Zidane made public his admiration for Pogba in the summer, but Madrid were unable to meet United's valuation.

There were reports of bids as high as nine figures for Eriksen this summer, but it's a cut-rate situation now that the player is in the transfer window of his contract.

- When does the transfer window reopen?

The key to the operation is making Zidane understand that Eriksen is not a short-sighted signing but a much-needed player for the squad.

The Denmark global was one of the first names on Los Blancos's agenda in the summer transfer window and multiple reports had claimed that he was set for a move to Spain.

But according to AS and Marca, Eriksen would rather wait until his deal runs out in June so he can leave for free and pick up a huge signing bonus.

One of the clubs that has remained linked with Eriksen throughout the saga has been Madrid, who spent a significant amount of money over the summer but didn't succeed in bringing an attacking midfielder to Spain.
