Ramos sets Spain record with 168th cap

Moreno: Real Sociedad midfielder Odegaard not good enough for Spain

Moreno: Real Sociedad midfielder Odegaard not good enough for Spain

Ramos made his 168th worldwide appearance in a 1-1 Euro 2020 qualifier away to Norway on Saturday, edging ahead of his former Real Madrid and global team-mate Iker Casillas.

However, the 33-year-old is also expected to play for Spain at Euro 2020, meaning he would face a heavy workload given the tournaments take place nearly back to back, with a brief gap in mid-July.

"Ramos' record is incredible", Moreno told a news conference.

Moreno will be spared having to make a decision on Ramos over the Olympics, as responsibility for that team is set to fall on Spain Under-21 boss Luis de la Fuente. I don't want to disrespect anyone.

"I'm sorry, but no", Moreno said.

This legendary number of games has come spread across six official competitions: World Cup (17), Euros (15), Confederations Cup (8), Nations League (4), World Cup Qualification (29) and Euro Qualification (32). "In the second half we have tightened up more, we generated opportunities to score the second goal. but in the end the control has been lost".

No matter the result between Romania and Norway on Tuesday, Spain would not be able to qualify unless they collect a point from their own match.

Spain coach Roberto Moreno insists Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Odegaard wouldn't be good enough for his squad.

"For me, it's a pride after so many years to be the national team player with the most caps and I get emotional when I put on this shirt".
