Coco Gauff has reached the semi-finals of a WTA Tour event for the first time as her run continued at the Linz Open.

"I'm studying the typical stuff: math, English, history".

Gauff maintained control throughout over the eighth-ranked Bertens to earn her first victory over a top 10 player.

Gauff earned her place in the field as a lucky loser from qualifying as Greek Maria Sakkari withdrew injured to start the week.

"There have been a lot of firsts this week", Gauff said, according to Agence France-Presse. "It was a good match, Kiki played great, and obviously I couldn't ask for anything better so far in this tournament". I'm super proud for what I've done. Gauff's new ranking assures her a spot in the main draw of the Australian Open in January.

"I wasn't really too nervous until the match points came along", stated Gauff. I'm glad I was able to come out on top.

Gauff was never threatened by her more experienced opponent, who owns titles this season at St Petersburg and Madrid and reached the Beijing semi-finals last week before returning to Europe. Gauff staved off both of the break points she faced in the tilt, won three-quarters of her first-service points, and claimed half of the points off of Bertens's second serve.
