Louisiana Man Dies in Underwater Proposal Gone Wrong

A United States man drowned during a dream vacation to Tanzania as he proposed to his attorney girlfriend, who never even got the chance to give him her answer.

Steven Weber Jr. and Kenesha Antoine were vacationing in Tanzania and staying in an overwater bungalow with a bedroom submerged in the sea when Weber Jr. popped the question early Friday, the Louisiana Advocate reported.

The social media tribute also included photographs of the stunt and video of Weber swimming underwater with a note zipped inside a plastic bag.

At the end of the video, Weber pulls out a ring as Antoine is heard joyfully exclaiming, "yes!"

He then shows the other side where he asks Kenesha to marry him before producing a ring.

Antoine explained that Weber "never emerged from those depths", meaning he never got to hear her answer - which was: "Yes! Yes!"

She continued: "We never got to embrace and celebrate the beginning of the rest of our lives together, as the best day of our lives turned into the worst, in the cruelest twist of fate imaginable".

The Department of State told WBRZ on Friday that a USA tourist died in Tanzania, but no other details were reported.

Weber had dived into the ocean to press a note against the window, asking Antoine to marry him.

The couple had been on holiday in Tanzania when the incident happened.

Antoine described Weber as a "kind", "compassionate" person who was a "bright light" to those he met. "A million times, yes, I will marry you!"

"Just a couple of days before you died, you said to me, 'I've seen a few cancer patients on this trip, and it dawned on me that this is a once-in-a-lifetime thing that people want to experience before they die". Yes, we were, and I will carry the blessing of the love we shared with me forever.

"We offer our sincerest condolences to the family on their loss", a spokesperson said. We stand ready to provide all appropriate consular assistance'.

"Wherever in the universe Steven's spirit now resides ... he's probably entertaining someone with a story about how he royally screwed up that proposal and died while being extra". Thank you for your eloquent, fearless words.

One said: "Steven is the truest friend one can ever know and love".

'I can not yet comprehend this loss.

WAFB 4 reported that Weber was an RA at St. Christopher's Addiction Wellness Center.
