Vivo unveils the Nex 3 with 5G and waterfall display

Two versions of the device will be released, a 4G and 5G iteration, allowing Vivo to join Samsung, Huawei, and LG on the 5G bandwagon. It means there's no physical volume/power buttons either, instead a pressure-sensitive section under the screen provides haptic feedback. There's a triple camera arrangement to the rear, which houses a 64-megapixel main sensor, while Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855 Plus and 12GB RAM keep things running smoothly. That said, the Vivo Nex 3 is based on the Vivo Apex 2019 concept smartphone which the company showcased earlier this year. At 6.89 inches, the notch-free display has a significantly improved 99.6% screen-to-body ratio, providing consumers with a breathtaking visual experience. The company has removed hardware buttons on the sides because there's no room for them, according to Vivo.

With the screen now wrapping around the edges, Vivo has baked in Accidental Touch Protection 4.0 to not leave you frustrated while using the device. However, the 5G version will get the Snapdragon X50 5G modem. While the entry-level Nex 3 costs CNY 4,998 (approx Rs 51,000), offering 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage and 4G connectivity, the Vivo Nex 5G handset with 8GB RAM and 256GB will set you back CNY 5,698 (approx Rs 58,000).

Vivo is pushing for 5G connectivity with its latest flagship and well, the Vivo NEX 3 5G is priced quite exorbitantly - keeping that in mind. The phone has a 4500mAh battery with Vivo's 44W Super FlashCharge charging tech, and there's also a liquid cooling chamber. There's a 64MP primary sensor (f/2.09), a 13MP ultra-wide sensor (f/2.2, 120 degrees) and a 13MP 2x telephoto sensor (f/2.48).

Sadly, Vivo did not announce the pricing of the Vivo Nex 3 and Nex 3 5G.

Vivo NEX 3 will be available in two color variants - Black and White gradient.

Oppo may have shown off the first smartphone with a waterfall screen, but Vivo is now officially the first phone maker to launch a device with a waterfall display commercially.

Now, at an event in Shanghai, Vivo announced the Nex 3, which is still fighting the same fight: Making the screen larger and bezels smaller.

The Vivo Nex 3 will be available "in the coming months" in the Asia Pacific, Southeast Asia and "other" markets.

What you won't find on the Nex 3 is a display notch, which suits us just fine.
