A mob in Ghotki town of Pakistan's Sindh province on Sunday vandalised temples, a school and shops and residences of the Hindu community after a student accused his school principal belonging to the minority community of blasphemy.

Following this, a mob attacked the school, vandalised nearby temples, and even some homes of Hindus. He added that Mian Mithu's son Mohammad Aslam registered an FIR in the present case.

Sukkur Additional IGP Jamil Ahmed confirmed the worrying developments in a tweet, saying that police were "trying to deal with a serious situation".

"Alleged accused, Notan Mal, is now in the safe custody of Police". He said a fair investigation would be ensured after confirmation of the facts and justice will prevail. Situation in Ghotki is back to normal within 12 hours by the grace of God.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Ramesh Kumar Vankwani, who is also the head of the Pakistan Hindu Council, said the principal was at an undisclosed location for safety reasons and will be handed over to Hyderabad Deputy Inspector General Naeem Shaikh who will further investigate the matter. "They also damaged the school where Notan teaches as also the shops and houses of Hindus", he said.

In response to a question regarding the principal of the school, who has been accused of committing blasphemy, AIG Ahmed said that he will be taken to court after the law and order situation has been assessed.

Demands were raised by the residents of the area for arrest of the school principal, who had allegedly made a blasphemous remark.
