Now, it's an Emmy Award victor.

The athletic brand's "Dream Crazy" commercial, which starred Colin Kaepernick and featured other athletes like Serena Williams, Shaquem Griffin, and LeBron James, took home the award for outstanding commercial.

The "Dream Crazy" ad, which features several athletes but is narrated by Kaepernick, debuted just after Labor Day in 2018 and was created by the advertising agency Wieden+Kennedy and produced by Park Pictures. Many viewers, however, focused on Kaepernick, whose sideline protests against racial injustice during National Football League games garnered widespread attention - including negative attention from President Trump.

Videos were also uploaded to social media of people burning their Nike products. Nike also gained tens of thousands of Instagram followers after announcing the campaign.

Despite his part in the popular ad, Kaepernick, who has been under contract with Nike since 2011, was recently at odds with the company.

Citing people familiar with the matter, the Journal's report stated: "After images of the shoe were posted online, Mr. Kaepernick, a Nike endorser, reached out to company officials saying that he and others felt the Betsy Ross flag is an offensive symbol because of its connection to an era of slavery".

The 2-minute ad - which was first released in September of previous year and was part of the company's 30th anniversary "Just Do It" campaign - received the award for outstanding commercial at the Creative Arts Emmys on Sunday night.

The more specialized awards show precedes the better-known prime-time Emmy Awards, which will air on September 22 on Fox.
