John Cena Announced for Big Movie Role

There was an element of this in David Ayer's Suicide Squad, but only two of the team ended up perishing - El Diablo sacrificed himself to save the rest and Slipknot was killed off nearly immediately.

The original 2016 film starred Margo Robbie as infamous Batman villain Harley Quinn, alongside a rouge's gallery of convicted criminals (including Will Smith) tasked by the USA government to fight crime in the wake of Superman's death.

David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, and Steve Agee previously joined the film as Polka-Dot Man, Ratcatcher, and King Shark, respectively. But instead, he ended up taking on a different undisclosed character in order to allow Will Smith to return to the franchise sometime down the road if he wishes.

Wait, Storm Reid? The little girl from A Wrinkle in Time?

John Cena was also cast awhile back, and speculation has been that he might play Peacemaker, a character that James Gunn was originally hoping Dave Bautista would play.

Everyone wants to be in a superhero movie and now John Cena is going to do just that. Rooker is, of course, a bit of a good luck charm for Gunn having appeared in Slither and both Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

In any case, with the cast announced, this means production must be nigh, so we'll likely get more updates and first looks in the coming weeks.

In a bit of a surprise Friday news drop, writer/director James Gunn has revealed the full The Suicide Squad cast for his upcoming sequel. The Suicide Squad happens on August 6, 2021.
