The Brazil global has been sidelined since the Premier League opener against Norwich City, but stepped up his recovery at Melwood over the past week.

The 26-year-old Brazilian goalkeeper is out with a calf injury and is subsequently working on his fitness at Melwood.

Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achterberg has heaped praise on Reds custodian Adrian and admits he could not be any happier with how the Spaniard has fared.

Alisson was also at Melwood during the global break as he steps up his recovery plan.

"Ali has been working with Dave [Rydings] in the gym a lot to improve the strength and try to keep the fitness levels up", Achterberg recently said.

It needs time and we can not look too far ahead, so we take each day as it comes, see how he feels, and then make progress from that. "It needs time and we can not look too far ahead, so we take each day as it comes, see how he feels, and then make progress from that".

The 48-year-old is pleased with how the ex-Real Betis man has handled the pressure of playing for a club of Liverpool's stature, which was made more intense by the lack of extra training sessions and an injury he picked up after he helped the side to the UEFA Super Cup last month.

"It is really hard for anyone to replace Ali, especially when you've not had a chance to settle and pick everything up", Achterberg said.

"Obviously Adrian came late in the summer to us and then after that he had an ankle injury, so we thought it would be beneficial to do some more sessions to keep it going, really".

"We did a few extra sessions with them both last week at Melwood", Achterberg told Liverpool's website.

"He has stayed calm and relaxed and shown a positive, confident manner, which helps the team a lot".

"We did some decent workouts with him".

"He also had a few days off, but not the full week".

Liverpool return to action on Saturday as they look to make it five wins from five in the Premier League with the visit of Newcastle United.
