From Frozen 2 to Soul All the Disney Animation and Pixar Announcements From D23 Expo

Elsa, Ralph, and Moana are getting some new company at Walt Disney Animation. Disney Animation chief creative officer Jennifer Lee made the announcement at Disney's biennial fan expo D23 on Saturday.

Cassie Steele (Degrassi) will be the voice of Raya, and Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians) will voice the dragon, who will be named Sisu. Fom what we heard, the film will follow Raya as she tries to find the last Dragon to save her fictional homeland of Kumandra: "a reimagined earth inhabited by an ancient civilization that venerated the mythical dragons for their power and their wisdom". The world has five distinct clans that make up for "Land of the Dragon" and Raya teams up with a crew of misfits throughout her quest to "bring light and unity back to their world".

Raya and the Last Dragon comes out November 2020, giving you exactly one year to recover from Frozen II.

On the Expo stage, Awkwafina joked her dragon character's hair looks "splendiferous" and is based on southeast Asian water spirits. She might have a problem, though, as Sisu is trapped in a human body and needs to reclaim her true dragon form. Basically, Sisu is not the hero dragon Raya was expecting, but thankfully they have help.

The movie footage shown at D23 revealed Raya traveling in the jungle and entering a dark passageway to a temple filled with dragon hieroglyphic-like images.
