Ozil struggled in Emery's first campaign in charge of the Gunners as the German battled knee and back injuries, and failed to produce his best on a consistent basis when healthy.

Last season, he managed just six goals and three assists, despite earning a club-record £350,000 per week.

Arsenal boss Emery is having to rebuild his squad in the knowledge there is little more than £50million to spend on players unless he is able to sell any of his fringe stars.

The Emirates outfit also picked up an impressive 2-1 victory over Bayern Munich at the Dignity Health Sports Park in their International Champions Cup opener in Los Angeles.

"I have a really good relationship with the coach so we are speaking a lot and he wants to help me and I want to help the team", Ozil said.

What do you think of Ozil's new hair colour?

"He was strong previous year as well so, of course, if you really work with the first team together always, you feel more comfortable and you believe in yourself more".

"At Arsenal I think we are lucky to have those young players".

"I really, really think that he made one more step a year ago during the season and he finished it very well with us, playing 12 minutes in the final against Chelsea with a big performance".

Ozil has endured a hard time in recent seasons at Arsenal, struggling to rediscover the form he found when he joined the club in 2013. With that in mind, the midfielder has been engaged in discussions with his manager about how to make the upcoming season a bigger success than the last.

"It was a bet between me, (Alexandre) Lacazette, Shkodran (Mustafi) and Sead Kolasinac; it was crossbar challenge so Lacazette was the victor", Ozil explained, as quoted by Spanish publication Marca. "I want to help the team and I think it will be going well this season, for me and the team".
