Ravel Morrison signs for Sheffield United

The Sheffield United manager, Chris Wilder, has backed Ravel Morrison "to get back to the level he wants to be" after confirming the signing of the former Manchester United midfielder on a one-year contract.

But following a trial period with the Blades, Morrison has earned a one-year deal with the possibility of an extension.

It was in east London he briefly showed glimpses of his talent after arriving from United in 2012, with loan spells in addition at Birmingham City, Queens Park Rangers and Cardiff City.

Ravel is an undoubted talent and we are delighted we have put together a deal that suits all parties.

"We are getting a fantastic footballer with a tremendous pedigree and this is a great opportunity for Rav".

A former England youth worldwide through to under-21 level, Morrison left Old Trafford in 2012 after United ran out of patience with him, allowing him to join West Ham, who then loaned him to Birmingham City.

'He's done extremely well during his time with us and it was great to have him in Portugal.

A disappointing spell at Ostersunds saw him released from the club this year but Wilder is convinced he and his coaching staff can get the best out of Morrison following their pre-season trip to Portugal.

However, he played just four Serie A games for the Rome-based outfit and was soon back at QPR on loan and in 2017 Harry Redknapp took him on trial. Trips like what we have been on are invaluable for that'.
