When Marvel's Avengers debuted at E3 2019, the designs of the five heroes were met with heavy fan criticism online, with the main complaint being they looked like a pale imitation of the MCU Avengers of which they were clearly based on. And while many fans showed excitement in seeing what's to come with its superhero game, others expressed disappointment in not being shown almost enough. Yesterday developer Crystal Dynamics stated that, despite the controversy, these designs would not be changed. Speaking to IGN, creative director Shaun Escayg held his ground on the designs.

Escayg said to the site "we are always listening to, and welcome feedback from our community".

That said, however, he didn't shut the door completely when it came to making improvements to these characters. However, he left room for upgrading "the level of detail and overall polish", given that the trailer only reflects "pre-alpha gameplay footage". The designs are new for the game, with some criticizing them for being bland.

Lead combat designer Vincent Napoli added, "There are other aesthetic ways to customize your player card and your player experience, but there is nothing that affects the gameplay". "We were creating a brand new thing in collaboration with Marvel, so it really did demand our own characters".

Marvel's Avengers will be heading to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on 15th May 2020. Now we know: the game has a core single player storyline that you'll be playing alone, jumping between different Avengers automatically as the story and action necessitates it.
