He broadly branded Trump "an existential threat to this country" and said his behavior is beneath the office of the presidency. "I just had a meeting with a person who's a pollster, and I'm winning everywhere".

President Donald Trump and Democrat Joe Biden spent Tuesday trading insults - sometimes in real-time - as they stumped across Iowa in split screen moments that could preview a ferocious fight ahead if the two men face off for the presidency next year. "You need ideas more than polls", he said. Those polls don't exist.

Biden added that Trump "backed off his threat of tariffs to Mexico basically because he realized he was likely to lose" in manufacturing states such as MI and Ohio.

Trump said his internal poll numbers were "unbelievable" and that he was "the strongest I've ever been".

And a Quinnipiac poll released this week showed Trump trailing six 2020 Democratic White House hopefuls in national matchups. You mean I'm losing in 15 out of 17 states?

Trump instructed aides to deny the results of the campaign's internal polling and say publicly that other data showed him doing well, according to the New York Times report.

Biden will spend his day campaigning in eastern Iowa, according to his schedule, while Trump will head for the western side to make remarks on renewable energy before flying to central Des Moines for a dinner and fundraiser with the state's Republican Party.

"On Good Morning America today they had phony polling information", Trump told Stephanopoulos. "You should have, but it was late in the evening and perhaps you didn't get a chance".

Mr. Stephanopoulos asked, "Why does it bother you so much?" As polling numbers have become more commonly reported, it appears that Trump is pushing back in an effort to diminish their impact.

"Because it's untrue. I like the truth".
