The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared a photo of Harry and Philip laughing, as well as a throwback shot of Philip dancing with Queen Elizabeth II, whom he Wednesday in 1947.

The caption reads: "Wishing His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, Sir, Grandpa a very Happy 98th Birthday!" Philip is believed to be in Windsor, where he recently attended Lady Gabriella Windsor and Thomas Kingston's wedding at St George's Chapel.

He still enjoys carriage-driving and was seen at the reins at the Windsor Horse Show in May.

Prince Philip also appeared in a photograph in May with his latest great-grandchild Archie, the infant son of Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex.

After celebrating the Queen's 93rd birthday over the weekend at Trooping the Colour, her husband Prince Philip rang in his 98th trip around the sun on Monday (June 10).

Back in the summer of 2017, the Duke of Edinburgh is known to have performed public duties, and went "on pension". "I found a couple of classic photographs of Grandpa and I on Christmas Day and Trooping the Colour a few years ago", she wrote.

The British army plans to fire gun salutes in Philip's honour. The army tweeted it is "determined to make it a good one".

It's understood that Prince Philip will be celebrating his special day in private with family. His mother and father were Princess Alice of Battenberg and Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark. He also had four sisters named, Princess Cecilie, Princess Sophie, Princess Margarita, and Princess Theodora. On his distant cousin Princess Elizabeth (they met when she was 13 years old) he married November 20, 1947.
