Snedeker finished T-4 at last week's RBC Canadian Open and T-16 at the PGA Championship won by Koepka in May, with Johnson a close second.

So what is their secret?

More than two decades ago, Diovisalvi recognised the need for players to evolve physically and set about putting the science behind the ideal swing into practice.

The experienced Englishman has been relatively quiet since he contended in the Masters, but over the past two years, the 43-year-old has played some of the best golf in his career.

The USGA confirmed that a player had been treated during Tuesday's practice after he aced the par-three seventh, the shortest hole in major championship golf, and became ill. In fact, one of our past champions told me he didn't envy me in this position, because there were a number of different opinions. Johnson has had ten top-ten finishes from 13 previous starts at this course.

"You have to be such an unbelievable player to be able to compete with the guys at the top of the game".

Returning to the site of past glories, the 39-year-old has enjoyed a resurgence this season, winning again on the PGA Tour and last week qualifying for the Open Championship in his hometown of Portrush.

"I think we've listened intently", said Bodenhamer.

"I actually didn't see it for a long time".

"Tommy is relentless in his pursuit of his strength, conditioning, mobility, flexibility".

Joey Diovisalvi is the head coach and founder of Joey D Golf Sports Training Centre in FloridaA day in the life of DJ. Like I obviously would have loved to contended in Jack's tournament.

Having placed third in the USPGA, he has been quietly getting his game back together after a tough couple of years and with the course by no means long, he may find the big hitters back on a level playing field.

"It's a really good test to see how the body and the swing are working".

Helping players get their "feel" is a key part of Diovisalvi's role.

Strangely, the US Open is the Major he has yet to play well in, but Cantlay has all the tools, with his methodical approach seeing him right at the top in all the accuracy stats, as well as being a fine putter. So they're not playing good enough.

"The majors that I've won I've started every single one of them really well and I think that's sort of what's held me back a little bit".

"But I think the last time I felt this free has to go back to maybe that run at the (FedEx Cup) play-offs in 2016". That being said, Woods hasn't finished in the top 10 at the U.S. Open since 2010 and has missed the cut the last two times he's played this event. It's just something we've all got to deal with.

"As a kid, you always wanted to win a US Open at Pebble". "He's very prepared in about 30 minutes to go out to the driving range and begin his routine".

A year ago we had greens at Shinnecock Hills that wouldn't hold quality approach shots, while in 2016 Dustin Johnson won despite having a rules infringement hanging over his head for most of the final round.

Diovisalvi takes huge pride in seeing the players he and his team have worked with win tournaments and the academy in Jupiter, Florida is decorated with banners won by the likes of Johnson, Koepka, Justin Thomas, Lexi Thompson and Michelle Wie.

Since the 1920s and the days of Jim Barnes, only Tony Jacklin and Justin Rose have carried the English flag to glory in this championship, but the young man from Hillingdon has the air of someone who thrives on the grandest stages, especially with greater experience now behind him. It's something I've done ever since I've gotten to major championships.

It wouldn't be an ideal selection for win only purposes given his tendency to throw it away when it comes to winning tournaments, though he is surely too good a player never to win a major.
