"When a club like Atletico made a big effort to retain him, they don't deserve a brief video", he noted.

Atlético Madrid have taken a no-nonsense stance on Antoine Griezmann. "I want to thank everyone for their support during these five years with the club where I've won my first important trophies".

"It's been an incredible five years here; thanks for everything, from the bottom of my heart", he said.

The 28-year-old's departure will be a major blow to the club, who have already lost Lucas Hernandez to Bayern Munich and face a fight to hang on to several other key players this summer. "I hope we can continue growing and continue competing as we have always done". Could he now be headed there?

"I do not aspire to convince anyone to stay", he said. I'm happy here and I want to be here for the years I have left at the top level.

"Griezmann hinted at the directors of Atletico de Madrid that he has done it with a team", Gomez was quoted by Express UK as saying.

Despite having spent over £280m on Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele in the past two seasons, Barcelona are interested in acquiring Griezmann.

Griezmann had a contract with Atletico until 2023 with a reported buyout clause of 200 million euros ($224 million), but the clause will be automatically reduced to about 120 million euros ($134 million) this offseason.

Griezmann, in conjunction with Atletico Madrid, announced that he would be leaving the Rojiblancos this summer after five years with Diego Simeone's side.

Paris St Germain will not be Griezmann's destination after coach Thomas Tuchel admitted: "He could play for any team in the world".

Atletico's attacking chores will fall on the recently signed Alvaro Morata and the veteran Diego Costa, who endured a season marred by injuries and lackluster performances.

The Frenchman was close to joining Barca at the end of last season, but very publicly rejected the Spanish giants just days before the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
