"He died at camp 4 while descending the summit", Acharya told PTI.

Mingma Sherpa, chairman of Seven Summit Treks, Kami Rita's expedition company, confirmed his next expedition in an interview with the Post.

Poudel said a search had started.

The Indian soldier, 35, from the Indian Army's expedition to Mount Makalu died at around 8,200 metres as he was returning from the summit.

Karar and Baidya were part of a five-member team of climbers from West Bengal.

Another climber from Chile, Rodrigo Vivanco, has been reported missing since Wednesday evening from above Camp IV of the mountain range.

"The weather was not good and he probably lagged behind".

His latest ascent took him two summits clear of two fellow sherpas, hiking officials said.

Hundreds of climbers flock each year to Nepal - home to several of the world's highest mountains, to scale Himalayan peaks during the spring season that begins around March and ends in June.

The death toll is already mounting, however.

Kathmandu: A 49-year-old sherpa reached the top of Mount Everest for a 23rd time on Wednesday, creating a new record for the most summits of the world's highest mountain, Nepali hiking officials said.

Last week experienced Peruvian climber Richard Hidalgo died on Mount Makalu, the world's fifth-highest mountain, while a Malaysian died in April after being rescued from Mount Annapurna where he spent two nights in the open near the summit. In 2017, Kami became the third person to climb Mount Everest for the 21st time, equalising the achievement of Apa Sherpa and Phurba Tashi Sherpa, both of whom have since retired.

"Two Indian climbers and a German mountaineer who also suffered from serious frostbite will be evacuated from the high altitude camp as early as possible", he told Nepal-based daily, the Himalayan Times.
