Evil is on the Move in New His Dark Materials Trailer

Today HBO released the first trailer featuring a star-studded cast. It follows Lyra Belacqua (Logan's Dafne Keen), a young girl who has an uncle (James McAvoy) that was nearly poisoned and gets upset when her friend randomly disappears, Polygon reported. Season 1 of His Dark Materials is set to have eight episodes, although it is unclear how deep into the books that will take the story.

Move over, Game of Thrones. That's part of why the 2007 Golden Compass bombed, because of a neutered approach that attempted to cut out any of the story's oblique references to the Catholic Church.

Executive Producing the series are Dan McCulloch, Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner for Bad Wolf, Philip Pullman, Jack Thorne, Tom Hooper, Deborah Forte, Toby Emmerich and Carolyn Blackwood for New Line Cinema, and Ben Irving and Piers Wenger - BBC One. Tom Hooper (The King's Speech), Otto Bathurst (Robin Hood), and Jamie Childs (Doctor Who) are just a few of the directors helping bring the show to life. But I'm starting to warm to the dark settings, because the first book is loaded with intrigue and twisty mysteries that lend to dim hallways and hushed conversations.

The items in question, in no particular order: Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ruth Wilson, that X-23 girl from Logan (Dafne Keen), a polar bear, James McAvoy sounding quite British, stolen children, airships, and a monkey fighting a ferret - which, honestly, might be the big sell for me here. The first season will cover the events of The Golden Compass, while the next seasons will adapt The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass.

His Dark Materials still doesn't have a premiere date, but network president Casey Bloys recently suggested that it would air on Monday nights in late 2019.
