Colorado prosecutors have charged the students suspected of opening fire at their school with over a dozen counts of murder and attempted murder as well as theft and arson.

A line of Jeeps and trucks stretched along a Highlands Ranch roadway ahead of the service for Kendrick Castillo, 18, who was a Jeep and off-road vehicle enthusiast. It wasn't clear if McKinney was being charged as an adult.

Both suspects are being held with no bond.

"We're going to hear about very heroic things that have taken place at the school", Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock said shortly after the shooting.

McKinney was scheduled to appear in court after Erickson. His attorneys' requested that he be unshackled during the hearing was denied. The defense wants the case sent back to juvenile court. Brauchler said that discovery evidence prosecutors now have in their possession would be turned over to Erickson's lawyers later Wednesday.

Castillo was one of a handful of students who allegedly rushed the shooters when the tragedy occurred at his school on May 7.

Castillo was the only fatal victim in the incident, while eight other students were hospitalized.

Witnesses said Erickson allegedly entered a classroom yelling, "Nobody move".

Prosecutors have said they will decide whether to charge 16-year-old Alec McKinney as an adult alongside 18-year-old Devon Erickson.

Jones said he was acting on instinct when he, Kendrick Castillo and Brendan Bialy subdued one of two students who attacked the school south of Denver on May 7. Almost a thousand drivers signed up, and even drivers who are not participating say they plan to show their support by having the school's colors - blue and yellow - somewhere on their Jeep.

Devon Erickson, 18, enters the courtroom at Douglas County Courthouse where he faces murder and attempted murder charges, in Castle Rock, Colo., May 15, 2019.

"He said, 'Mom this has happened, we've been.I've been involved in a school shooting, I was shot a couple of times in the leg, but I'm okay, '" she told reporters. "That's all I got right now for you"'.

McKinny was also arrested shortly after the gunfire erupted.

Joshua Jones, an 18-year-old senior at STEM School Highlands Ranch, said he was watching The Princess Bride in his British literature class when a classmate pulled a gun and told everyone to stay still. Castillo had been due to graduate next month and was planning to study mechanical engineering in college.

ABC News, citing an unnamed law enforcement official, reported last week that the security guard may have mistakenly fired on sheriff's deputies called to the scene and wounded a student in the chaos.

The second shooter was captured by an armed security guard.
