Referee Mike Dean celebrating

Premier League referee Mike Dean was spotted by the television cameras celebrating Tranmere Rovers' play-off semi-final victory over Forest Green Rovers on Monday night.

The 50-year-old hails from the Wirral borough in Merseyside and is a supporter of local League Two club Tranmere Rovers.

Tranmere will be looking to secure a second consecutive promotion when they head to Wembley with last night's 1-1 draw at the New Lawn helping them to qualify for the final on Saturday, May 25th.

Tranmere, who only returned to the Football League (EFL) in 2018 after three seasons at non-league level, will now face Newport County in the playoff final for a place in League One.

Fans took to Twitter to share their astonishment at the scenes - having grown used to Dean's as a referee who regularly gives out red cards - jokingly describing his antics as "ultras-like".

"I've got that exact feeling after spotting Mike Dean in the crowd as a fan".

Premier League referee and all-round entertainer Mike Dean gave the world further reason to adore him last night after he was spotted celebrating like he'd just scored the victor in a World Cup final.

Another added: "Mike Dean in the Tranmere Away end at Forrest Green is top drawer". In short, when Mike Dean is refereeing he seems to have an innate ability to find the camera.

The longest-serving active top-flight ref, Dean averages a dismissal every five games, more frequently than any of his current colleagues.
