NYC's De Blasio, Eric Trump Tweet Barbs Over Pollution Law

The tirade came after de Blasio held a press conference Monday to promote his own "Green New Deal" that will "ban classic glass and steel skyscrapers", among other "inefficient" things. NYC's Green New Deal is one law the Trumps won't get away with breaking. A Quinnipiac poll showed that over 75% of New Yorkers think their mayor shouldn't run, and many of de Blasio's own former aides and friends apparently tried to convince him that a presidential campaign was a bad idea.

We're told de Blasio, 58, just smiled in response and continued to enjoy the night with his bride, whom he married in May 1994. But forcing a pop-up press conference in our lobby is simply childish.

Eric Trump, the president's second son and executive vice president of The Trump Organization, criticized de Blasio for singling out his company and attacked the mayor's record in a series of tweets.

"Spare me", de Blasio wrote. "You and your dad have spent decades evading taxes and stiffing your workers. I wish you and our great city the best", Trump wrote. "First you have never created a job in your life". "We don't back down in New York City, do we?"

According to the most recent census data, Trump may be right about people leaving ny. Although the major population losses are focused upstate, Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Nassau and Westchester Counties all saw losses between 2017 and 2018 as well. The state's cumulative loss is such that, if it continues, NY could lose two Congressional seats by 2022.
