NY Jets fire general manager Maccagnan

NY made the borderline shocking announcement Tuesday that it fired general manager Mike Maccagnan as well as VP of player personnel Brian Heimerdinger. In the interim, Coach Gase will be the acting General Manager.

Douglas began his National Football League scouting career in Baltimore, where he won two Super Bowl rings working under legendary GM Ozzie Newsome.

Gase will be the interim general manager for now and this news can't be great for Bell, knowing his head coach didn't want him and the team is now in his full control.

"Mike helped to execute the strategic vision of the organization during the last four seasons and especially the last few months", Jets chairman Christopher Johnson said in a statement.

If you're a NY sports fan who puts your support behind the Knicks and Jets, well, you've had better days.

A rift reportedly grew between Maccagnan and Gase weeks after the head coach was hired in January.

Mehta reported that "Gase absolutely did not want to sign Le'Veon Bell, per sources". The Jets hired him 12 days later. "It kind of pisses me off a little bit".

Reports indicate Gase is interested in bringing in Eagles vice president of player personnel Joe Douglas, with whom he worked in Chicago. We have discussion on everything.

The Jets went 10-6 in their first season under Maccagnan and former coach Todd Bowles in 2015, but the team has struggled through three consecutive losing seasons since. According to ESPN, Maccagnan also had a significant role in initially hiring Gase, which only makes the move more shocking. He also acquired left guard Kelechi Osemele from the Raiders in a trade.

But Maccagnan's draft history since coming to NY is otherwise shaky, at best.
