The episode titled "Mr. Ratburn & the Special Someone" featured a gay wedding between Ratburn and Patrick, though it should be noted that the same-sex nature of the ceremony was never overtly acknowledged.

As fans who grew up with the beloved children's series might recall, Mr. Ratburn is Arthur's teacher who, as it turns out, is actually gay.

While the late-Arthur spin-off show Postcards from Buster once featured a gay couple in a 2005 episode entitled Sugartime, it was denounced by former USA secretary of education, Margaret Spellings, according to Variety. They do, however, make fun of the way Mr. Ratburn and his new husband dance, which is fair. Another fan wrote online, "i'm grown ass is still watching Arthur and y'all, when i saw that Mr Ratburn got married aND HES GAY, my wig got snatched".

According to TV Line, "Arthur and his pals are shocked to discover that Mr. Ratburn is engaged". Mr. Ratburn is instead marrying a man.

'Welcome out and congratulations Mr. Ratburn, ' one person tweeted. Muffy squeaks the question on all of our minds: "If Patty's his sister, then who is Mr. Ratburn marrying?"

"MR RATBURN IS GAY HELLO!" another user proclaimed.

GLAAD even congratulated the teacher.

"I am disappointed by PBS's decision", Marc Brown, author of the "Arthur" books and creator of both television series, said to the Times in a statement. The show follows eight-year-old Arthur Reed, an aardvark who is going through life with his friends and family in fictional Elwood City.
