Two planes crash in Alaska, three people killed, three unaccounted for

Ten of those passengers have been taken to a Ketchikan hospital.

Authorities also identified the two floatplanes as a de Havilland Beaver and de Havilland Otter.

Princess Cruises confirms to CityNews Vancouver both planes were carrying guests from Royal Princess, which is now sailing a seven-day Voyage of the Glaciers cruise that departed Vancouver on Saturday, May 11th for Anchorage.

City News Vancouver released a statement from Princess Cruises: "A small float plane operated by Taquan Air that was flying a shore excursion sold through Princess Cruises was involved in an accident approximately eight miles from Ketchikan". He added that the 10 injured were from the first plane and the 11th person was among the missing.

Coast Guard Sector Juneau Command Center watchstanders launched a Coast Guard Air Station Sitka MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew and two 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crews Monday from Coast Guard Station Ketchikan in response to the incident.

The US Coastguard have confirmed that three people are dead, and three are still missing after a collision between two float planes.

The second, smaller plane-a de Havilland Beaver-was carrying four cruise guests and a pilot, on an independent tour.

"We have one in critical condition, three in serious condition, and six in fair condition", Chernick said.

At least 10 others have been hospitalised, according to the US Coast Guard and Federal Aviation Administration officials.

The coast guard and local search and rescue crews were on scene.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating. Floatplanes have pontoons mounted under the fuselage so they can land on water.

The other plane had five people aboard, and he says they are unaccounted for.

Coast Guard Petty Officer Jon-Paul Rios told The Associated Press one of the planes carried 11 people and the other plane carried five. The condition of one guest remains unknown. It was not immediately clear whether the floatplanes collided or went down separately.
