KY AG indicts man of 3 counts of murders in 2015

Sister station WAVE reports Attorney General Andy Beshear confirmed via statement Saturday morning that Christian Richard Martin was arrested at the Louisville International Airport.

A pilot for an American Airlines subsidiary accused of murdering three of his neighbors in 2015 was arrested in Kentucky moments before takeoff Saturday on a plane filled with passengers.

After the murders, officials said in a statement that Martin moved to Christian County, Ky., and was living in North Carolina at the time of the indictment. He is charged with three counts of murder, one count of arson, one count of attempted burglary and three counts of tampering with evidence.

In November 2015, Calvin Phillips was found shot dead in his Pembroke, Ky., home. The bodies of Phillips' wife, Pamela, and their neighbor, Edward Dansereau, were later discovered a few miles away in a cornfield inside her burned vehicle.

A jail booking photo of Martin shows him still in his pilot's uniform. His wife Pamela, 58, and Dansereau, 63, were found in a cornfield inside Pamela's auto, which had been burnt.

The victims' families said in a joint statement that the three were "brutally extinguished - beyond recognition from family". "There are many steps from here, but we hope this is one example of when you never stop seeking justice, when you never give up, that we can truly get important results for these families". The police have not mentioned Martin's motive for the killing, according to Fox News.

Authorities have not released a motive, but the radio station WKDZ-FM reported past year that Calvin Phillips was a potential witness in a previous case against Martin. The private investigator determined Calvin Phillips would be a star witness for Martin's side, Richardson said.

"It's startling", said Martin.

Calvin Phillips was scheduled to testify in that case but died before he had the chance.

For starters, the 51-year-old American Airlines pilot claimed in 2016 that Calvin Phillips, 59, was having an affair with his wife.

American Airlines says in a statement it is cooperating in the investigation.

"We have an unwavering commitment to the safety and security of our customers and team members, and we will provide any investigative assistance possible to law enforcement throughout their investigation", the airline said.

An airline pilot arrested in Kentucky could be in charged in court as early as today in a 2015 triple homicide.

Martin would have turned himself in if he had known authorities meant to arrest him, he said. The airline also said that Martin had been subject to recurrent vetting and a criminal background check, which had not turned up anything that would disqualify him from working as a commercial pilot.
