"We have that young man, Buttigieg, boot-edge-edge, they say boot-edge-edge", Trump said, repeating the pronunciation chant that supporters of the 37-year-old mayor use at rallies. "'Boot-edge-edge" they say 'edge-edge.' He's got a great chance, doesn't he? "He'll be great, representing us against President Xi of China, that'll be great, I want to be in that room, I want to watch that one!"

He mocked "sleepy" Joe Biden for saying that world leaders asked him to run for president against Trump.

Appearing to refer to 2016 campaign rival Hillary Clinton, Trump added that if "another person" were in the White House, that would not be the case - and the night's rally attendance would total "like 10 people".

President Trump said Wednesday that America is the "the piggy bank that everybody wants to rob", and that his administration is helping the country's economy excel.

"Boy has he fallen like a rock. What the hell happened to Beto?"

Trump addressed a crowd of thousands at an outdoor amphitheater, looking to rally loyalists in the reliably Republican corner of the swing state as he kicks his 2020 efforts into high gear.

Democrats won't start voting for candidates until next February.
