Manchester United to battle Napoli in race to sign Kieran Trippier

Napoli are interested in signing Tottenham's Kieran Trippier following their disappointing Europa League exit, but face stiff competition from Manchester United for the England global defender.

This story, which I personally can not understand because United want to improve and Trippier. isn't very good, comes from the famously well-informed Gianluca Di Marzio, who also reports that Napoli are keen to take the right-back off Spurs' hands.

According to a UK Metro report, Trippier's impressive performances both in the Premier League and with his England national football team have also attracted the interest of Serie A giants, Napoli.

United are keen to strengthen their defensive line after a poor campaign this season, with club boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, confirming the Red Devils will be active during the summer transfer window.

He was particularly impressive at right-back for England during the 2018 World Cup and played a key role for the Three Lions as they reached the semi-finals of the tournament in Russian Federation.

Trippier, 28, still has three years left on his current contract at Spurs which has kept his market value high.

However, the report states that both clubs will hold off on making a bid until the end of the season so as to not unsettle the player during Tottenham's Champions League run in.

Antonio Valencia is set to leave United at the end of the season, while Matteo Darmian is likely to be sold and huge question marks remain about Ashley Young's future at the club.
