Unofficially, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp appeared to be working again shortly after 9 a.m.

Facebook Inc's social networking site, Instagram and WhatsApp were inaccessible to some users on Sunday, downdetector.com, which monitors outages, showed.

The problem started around 6:30AM ET, at least based on reports from users.

Facebook had more than 2.3 billion monthly active users across the world as of December 2018.

People took to Twitter to report the outages, with #WhatsAppDown, #InstagramDown and #FacebookDown trending in Pakistan and across the globe.

Many WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram users around the world are issues using the services. It was one of Facebook's worst outages as it lasted many hours, which the social media giant had acknowledged on Twitter.

Downdetector, a site that tracks website outages, reported problems with Facebook starting as early as 6.30 am Sunday morning in NY (4 pm in India).

The site's live outage map showed that the issues were mainly in Europe and Asia.

Mashable has reached out to Facebook for information on what's causing Sunday's outages.

The outage comes exactly a month after Facebook went down for nearly a full day across parts of North America and Europe on March 14.

"We're aware that some people are now having trouble accessing the Facebook family of apps".

The company's March outage also impacted the wider Facebook product family, including Instagram and WhatsApp, and persisted for hours.
