A person with measles is contagious for four days before and four days after the rash appears. A person can be infected with measles just by being in the same room as an infected person, even up to two hours after the infected person has left. "About 1 in 20 people who get the measles will end up getting a pneumonia from it This can be both a viral pneumonia from the measles itself or the measles can weaken the immune system enough that bacterial pneumonia can grow on top of that and these pneumonia's is the leading cause of death especially in children for the measles". But additional testing showed it was not measles.

"GPs and residents are now on the alert so we have also received four other reports of possible measles which we are currently investigating", Dr Miller said.
