Oklahoma City Thunder star Russell Westbrook has been suspended one game without pay after he picked up his 16th technical foul of the season in the Thunder's 110-88 home loss to the Golden State Warriors on Saturday.

Durant, the league's No. 4 scorer, also missed Golden State's game against Houston on Wednesday.

"If this were a playoff game, for sure he'd be playing but we want to be extra cautious".

Over at the AT&T Center, the San Antonio Spurs rallied in the final quarter to beat the visiting Portland Trail Blazers 108-103 for their eight consecutive victory. "It's up to him and (Director of Sports Medicine and Performance) Rick (Celebrini) tomorrow after shootaround". This could be the starting lineup for the Warriors with Durant out against his former team.

Russell Westbrook shook the drink in his hand, and the ice rattled around the cup to break the awkward silence.

However, the two-time defending National Basketball Association champions gave the Chesapeake Energy Arena crowd little to cheer about by flexing their other All-Star talent as they secured the season series 2-1. His 23.2 points, 11.1 rebounds and 10.5 assists per contest has helped Oklahoma City reach a 42-27 record entering Saturday, which is good for fifth in the Western Conference standings.

Andre Iguodala replaced Kevin Durant in the starting lineup and it appears likely he would take his place again with KD unable to go. The whistle blew, and Westbrook turned to official Tyler Ford.

Paul George led the Thunder with 29 points and added 13 rebounds.

Under NBA rules, players are automatically suspended when they hit 16 technicals in a season and if Westbrook collects two more then his coach could also be banned for a game.
