NYU Students Blame Chelsea Clinton for New Zealand Attacks

On Friday, New York University students confronted Chelsea Clinton at a vigil for victims of the mass shooting in Christchurch, New Zealand, which claimed the lives of 49 people.

Chelsea, who is now pregnant with her third child, was blamed by the NYU student to her face at a vigil for the NZ massacre victims on March 15.

"It's sickening to see people blame [Chelsea Clinton] for the [New Zealand] attacks because she spoke out against anti-Semitism", he wrote.

The student apparently was referring to Clinton's recent condemnation of anti-Semitic statements by Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn.

After attending a vigil on Friday, a group approached Clinton, saying her words "stoked" the massacre. "I want you to know that and I want you to feel that deep inside".

Alleged gunman, Brenton, 28, is an Australian personal trainer and he allegedly killed 49 people and injured 48 others at two mosques in Christchurch, NZ on March 15.

Other students who were present began to snap their fingers, which is a sign of approval often used by college students. "It certainly was never my intention".

"It's all about the Benjamins baby", Ms Omar said in a since-deleted tweet responding to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy's announcement he would take action against Ms Omar for being critical of the Jewish state. Clinton tried to deescalate the situation, but the students continued, with more joining in. I do believe words matter. "I believe we have to show solidarity".

"I'm so sorry that you feel that way", Clinton repeated at the time, sparking outrage and admiration online.

Omar, a freshman Democratic representative of Minnesota and practicing Muslim, stirred up controversy last month when she criticized Israel's treatment of Palestinians, saying that lobbyists paid USA officials to support Israeli policies. Prominent voices on both sides of the political spectrum accused Omar of outright anti-Semitism.

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, a prominent conservative commentator, agreed and said the blame lies exclusively with the gunman.
