To prevent disease and to improve kidney functions, one has to rectify some lifestyle mistakes.

Raji, who works at Akinkugbe Renal Centre, University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, gave the advice on Thursday in Ibadan.

World Kidney Day 2019 is focused on raising awareness of the high and increasing burden of kidney diseases worldwide and the need for strategies for prevention and disease management, with a focus on improving equity in health across socioeconomic groups.

Its theme was: "Kidney Health for Everyone, Everywhere".

They disclosed that Pakistan is the eighth largest country with a high prevalence of kidney diseases causing 20,000 deaths annually.

"For a population of 60,000, that is a significant amount of people who are on dialysis and also who have transplants, so it is quite common", he said.
