Life ban on cricketer Sreesanth set aside by Supreme Court

The Supreme Court also asked the cricket board to reconsider Sreesanth's punishment within the next three months. The apex court bench of justices Ashok Bhushan and KM Joseph, however, made it clear that its order shall have no effect on criminal proceedings pending against him. This comes after the Supreme Court, on March 1, reserved its order on a plea by the cricketer, against the Kerala High Court judgement, which had affirmed the ban imposed by the disciplinary committee, BCCI.

Despite the same, the BCCI had declined to reverse its disciplinary committee order against Sreesanth, which it asserted was passed on the basis of evidence.

Sreesanth was arrested by Delhi Police along with Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan on charges of spot-fixing during the 2013 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Feb 2, 2018: The Supreme Court agrees to hear the appeal filed by Sreesanth against the Kerala High Court verdict on February 5, 2018. "We will definitely take up the issue at the CoA meeting", COA chief Vinod Rai said on Friday. We will need to get a copy of the order.

The CoA is scheduled to meet on March 18 to discuss the anti-doping policy with International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Shashank Manohar.

The issue of Sreesanth's ban might come up among the COA on that day. "I am sure the BCCI will be kind to me and the decision will be in my favour", he said. I am confident that the issue will come up for serious deliberation at the next COA meeting. Meanwhile, Sreesanth appeared on Bigg Boss 12 and in an interview with Pinkvilla had reiterated how much he misses cricket and would love to be back on the field.

Former BCCI vice-president and Kerala CA senior official TC Matthew, someone who has seen Sreesanth as a youngster, "welcomed the verdict". I don't think even if the ban is lifted he can play first-class cricket. "I have waited long enough, six years". In a recent interaction with media, Bhuvaneswari revealed that she is quite happy about the fact that the honourable Supreme Court has revoked the life ban of her husband.
