Jürgen Klopp savoured one of his best nights as Liverpool manager as Bayern Munich were swatted aside to ensure that four English clubs go through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The in-form Sadio Mané scored a brilliant opener and, although the visiting side were pegged back before the interval by Joël Matip's own goal, a towering header from Virgil van Dijk and another from Mané rewarded Liverpool's attacking intent.

It was a memorable Champions League night for Liverpool, who didn't always hit top gear but controlled matters against Bayern. "We will see what we can do with it but it is a fantastic sign".

'We will see what we can do with it but it's still fantastic for us that LFC as a club, we really are back for the last games of global top football.

"Today we didn't play like in the Bundesliga, of course I don't know why. I knew we had a chance and the boys made it happen".

"It's a hard place to come, not too many teams have wins on their card at Munich".

'But we kept them as often as possible away from our goal. There were not too many hard situations in and around our box and that is a massive sign. We are back - that's good, we have a lot to learn but we are back.

Liverpool's only concern is a twisted ankle suffered by captain Jordan Henderson, although the initial diagnosis was more positive. Andy Robertson also picked up a booking in stoppage time that means he will miss the first leg of the quarter-finals but they were the only blemishes on an otherwise impeccable night for Klopp's team. "We can play better". You have to try and impress the other team and we did that. I was really happy with how strong the second half was, how mature it was, how much football we played. "I am not like this". It's not sweeter for me because it's Bayern.

"We were playing at home but that wasn't our game and I think that's why Liverpool beat us. It's just a good moment for Liverpool, so let's enjoy that".
