Private investigators working for Jeff Bezos have determined that the brother of the Amazon chief executive's mistress leaked the couple's intimate text messages to the National Enquirer.

But the Daily Beast, citing people inside American Media, Inc., reported that Sanchez was the Enquirer's source. But Michael told Howard Kurtz, a Fox News host, that he didn't do it. "Sanchez says "No way would I be involved in a leak that would be bad for my sister, "' Kurtz said".

On Sunday, an attorney for the head of American Media, which owns the Enquirer, said that the information for the story had been provided by a "reliable source" well-known to Bezos and Lauren Sanchez. Sanchez, meanwhile, has declined answering multiple direct questions about his possible role in the leaks. But his name started circulating as the scandal around she and Bezos expanded. In a January 31 tweet, he said without evidence that Bezos' longtime security consultant, Gavin de Becker, who is leading the private investigation, "spreads fake, unhinged conservative conspiracy theories".

What are Michael Sanchez's political connections?

Minutes later, however, the attorney said he could confirm that "it's not Saudi Arabia, it's not President Trump (and) it's not Roger Stone". He frequently criticizes CNN and other news outlets on Twitter and echoes many of Trump's positions, including talking about "fake news" and calling the Mueller investigation "McCarthyism" in December. Stone and Sanchez were in communication about the National Enquirer story after it ran, according to The Daily Beast, and when asked about Sanchez, Stone told The Daily Beast that he is a "very good guy".

The matter could soon surround Trump himself.

Page, who got involved in the Russian Federation investigation after serving as an early foreign policy adviser to Trump, also told The Daily Beast that he considered Sanchez a "friend" and that his agency represented him in the past.

Why is Michael Sanchez under scrutiny?

Their investigation into how the National Enquirer and AMI handled the story, de Becker noted, is "ongoing".

"It was a source that was well known to both Mr. Bezos and Ms. Sanchez", he told Stephanopoulos.

The Daily Beast underscores that there is no indication that Sanchez hacked his sister's phone and that he hasn't been charged with any crime, noting that the Bezos investigation found no evidence of hacking.
