"J. Lo better not salsa her way to the cookout because she is uninvited for that bad performance", preacher Jared Sawyer Jr. tweeted on Sunday.

But considering the barriers that black artists from the Motown era faced to get recognition, the choice seems especially thoughtless.

Fans suggested the likes of Gladys Knight, Beyoncé, or Jennifer Hudson to do the tribute.

Robinson himself defended Lopez's involvement, telling Variety recently that "anyone is upset is stupid", and the songstress shut down any other haters with her fantastic performance. The 49-year-old singer said she grew up on Motown music through her mom, listening to different artists such as The Temptations and The Supremes.

An emotional Lopez, who's of Puerto Rican descent, noted afterward that Motown Records founder Berry Gordy, who was in the audience, "was thrilled" to have her sing and was well aware of how much she's been influenced by Motown songs. They argued the Grammys should've chosen an African American singer. "I could cry. It's such a good moment", Jen told Entertainment Tonight after her set.

"The thing about music is that it inspires all. Any type of music can inspire any type of artist", she told the publication. "Mommy, this is for you because we used to dance around to this music", she told E! ahead of her performance.

"I don't think anyone who is intelligent is upset", he said. "It's just a dream come true". "You gotta do what's in your heart", Lopez shared in her defense. Ne-Yo, Grammys host Alicia Keys, and Motown legend Smokey Robinson also performed, but Lopez was clearly the star of the tribute. "I'm just very humbled and honored to be able to have sung those songs".

"Your Motown "tribute" should have had BLACK WOMEN in it".

Robinson elaborated, "Motown was music for everybody". According to Us Weekly, viewers watching the awards show from the comfort of their homes were shown a close-up of Rodriguez appearing stunned during Lopez's performance.

So, fortunately for Lopez, no matter what people say, she'll always have her no. 1 fan at her side.
