An evacuation of the site was conducted by police on 6 February due to concerns of pressurised refrigerants being on the site.

She added it was a "strong possibility" that people who work within the exclusion zone would not have access on Thursday morning.

It said: "We apologise to all those affected by this incident and are very thankful to the people of Andover for their understanding and support during this hard period".

"The Fire Brigade is expected to remain on site for at least the next few days but Major Incident Status has been removed".

Ocado said the fire, which started in a corner of the ambient grid, caused substantial damage to the majority of the building and its contents. "Ocado is grateful for the patience and understanding of customers during this period".

Some 200 fire-fighters from Hampshire Fire and Rescue attended.

A fire service spokeswoman said about 20 families were at a rest centre set up in Harrow Way Community School, Andover, after being evacuated from their homes.

Ocado's massive robot controlled warehouse in Hampshire was destroyed by fire on Tuesday (Feb 5).

Four firefighters were treated for minor smoke inhalation, but no Ocado staff were injured.

One local tweeted during the blaze: "Just streets away - the noise, heat, smell and light pouring from the Ocado warehouse is frighteningly real".

The delivery giant's share price climbed three per cent today, recovering some losses in the blue-chip firm's stock value after investors feared for the firm's future growth in the wake of the blaze, which has been raging since the early hours of Tuesday. Ocado said the hi-tech robotic warehouse in Andover provided around 10% of its current capacity and its shutdown means there will be a "constraint on our ability to meet our growing customer demand".
