Missy Elliott is the third rapper inducted into the Hall of Fame, following Jermaine Dupri's induction a year ago and Jay Z's induction in 2017.

So in theory, Missy is only at the 20-yard line, facing an imminent touchdown, which doesn't preclude her from marking the accomplishment on her resume - making her the 2nd hip-hopper EVER in the 50 years to be inducted into the "Songwriters Hall of Fame", and the first female rapper EVER, on top of that.

According to CBS News, which revealed her nomination on "CBS This Morning: Saturday", Elliott will be inducted along with five other artists in 2019: Cat Stevens, John Prine, Tom T. Hall, Dallas Austin and Jack Tempchin.

"The first thing you need to know is it's about the song, the second thing you need to know is it's about the song, the third thing you need to know is it's about the song", Songwriters Hall of Fame Chairman Nile Rodgers said. "These are writers who in their time literally transformed music and helped make what's happening today possible". Missy Elliott is also a five-time Grammy Award victor. All her albums have been certified platinum or more and she has sold over 30 million records.

"I want to CONGRATULATE all the fantastic songwriters who have been inducted into the 2019 'Song Writers Hall of Fame", Elliott tweeted Saturday morning (January 12).

The new class of songwriters will officially be inducted on June 13 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.
