The grandfather of a 13-year-old northwestern Wisconsin girl who authorities say escaped a man who killed her parents and held her captive for three months said Sunday she's in "exceptionally good spirits". That led to an intense search that ended Thursday when she was found alive - and Patterson was arrested - about 70 miles from her home.

Patterson went to the Closs home outside Barron, Wisconsin, with the intention of taking Jayme, Fitzgerald said.

"We believe Jayme was the target, and he (Patterson) was getting rid of possible barriers to taking her", Fitzgerald said.

Hundreds of people volunteered to help in the search for Jayme Closs.

Jeanne Nutter, who has a cabin in the Gordon area, was walking her dog on an isolated road around 4 p.m. when she saw Jayme out in the cold around dusk. "We love you Jayme", Trowbridge said.

Jayme was found Thursday outside the rural community of Gordon, where Patterson was holding her against her will in his home, authorities said. "I tingle because I have been praying for her since it happened, I don't know the family personally but it's just wonderful", said member, Larry Leff.

"I'm lost and I don't know where I am, and I need help", Jayme told Nutter.

They called 911, and Jayme provided a description of Patterson's vehicle. "She said that this person usually hides her or hides her when others are near, or when he has to leave the household". "Now I pray that she can handle this and get her life back together", Schoenecker added. Ten minutes after Jayme was found, Patterson was pulled over and arrested.

Little has been revealed about Jayme's ordeal since her abduction in mid-October, although more details could come on Monday when Patterson is expected to be charged and make his first appearance in court. Did he take things with her? "She's in exceptionally good spirits".

"It was great to know she was next to me all night", Jennifer Smith posted on Facebook on Saturday. A shotgun was recovered from the cabin, which Patterson's father owned. It appeared Patterson hid her from his friends and other people, the sheriff said without elaborating.

Jayme's grandfather, Robert Naiberg, said that considering the circumstances, the teen is holding up. That's been the goal of mine for 88 days. "Did she go with him to the store? Did he buy food?"
