In addition, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr also revealed that Cousins will start in his first game back in the lineup after being sidelined for almost a full calendar year.

Earlier this week, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that Cousins plans to play his first game on January 18 against the Los Angeles Clippers.

While there's no doubt this team is still the favorite to repeat, Jason Smith thinks Steve Kerr is looking for someone to light a fire under them, and the return of DeMarcus Cousins could be that flame.

"Yeah, I'll start him".

"We'll have to play around with him - the minutes, the combinations, the sets. We haven't had a player like him here before", said Kerr, whose starting rotation already boasts the star talents of Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson. "We haven't had a player like him here before", said Kerr.

The 28-year-old center tore his Achilles in January last season while with the New Orleans Pelicans and is yet to feature for the Warriors, although Golden State are reportedly hoping to have him in action next week.

Cousins will reportedly make his much-anticipated Warriors debut on January 18 against the Los Angeles Clippers at Staples Center. "So that he's through that barrier, and assuming everything goes well the next week or two, that's sort of the idea to get him in some time that week". The NBA is excited. "Just coming out and being part of the team. that's good enough for me". He's been great in the rehab process.

Before the injury last season, Cousins was averaging 25.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.6 blocks for the Pelicans.
