Apple AirPower charging pad may finally be launching soon

Production of the long-overdue AirPower charging mat has begun at last, according to a report from Apple's Asian supply chain. This promised accessory can charge an iPhone, Apple Watch and an upcoming AirPods case simultaneously. It was supposed to be released sometime in 2018 and then Apple had completely removed the AirPower from their website sometime past year.

Apple unveiled AirPower 16 months ago alongside the iPhone 8 and iPhone X, its first smartphones to support wireless charging. A Twitter account by the name of ChargerLab claimed that Apple's production partner Luxshare Precision has started producing the new AirPower. There were also reports previous year that Pegatron would also be producing AirPower, and shortly after their first tweet, ChargerLAB followed up with a source saying that Pegatron would begin manufacturing on January 21st.

"AirPower is finally coming", the tweet reads. Luxshare Precision is perhaps best known as a Guangdong, China-based manufacturer of Apple's AirPods. Pegatron has a long relationship with Apple, producing some of the company's most popular products.

Back in October, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo released a research note saying AirPower could still launch, in "late 4Q18 or early 1Q19", along with new AirPods as well. Luxshare Precision is also the maker of Apple AirPods and USB-C cables. Are you still holding out for AirPower to wirelessly charge all your Apple devices?
