Liverpool suffer huge pre-Brighton injury blow

Dejan Lovren became the latest Liverpool centre-back to pick up an injury when he came off after five minutes of the third-round tie, clutching his left hamstring.

Liverpool will be hoping to bounce back quickly from their defeats at Manchester City and Molineaux to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table to seven points. "We have to decide day-by-day how he is doing". We'll see what that means exactly. Adam [Lallana] is out.

"Joel trained yesterday first time with the team, which is really good, but we have to see", Klopp told a news conference on Friday.

"I don't know [when Lovren is back]".

'I'm not sure, but we'll have to see'.

Van Dijk took the Player of the Month honours and had been the subject of praise from his manager earlier in the day ahead of the trip to Brighton and Hove Albion.

Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp discussed the versatility of Fabinho today as he may be looking to utilise the Brazilian's ability to play at centre-half against Brighton this weekend.

"If you are a holding six (midfielder) or a centre half with the ball it is easier", he added.

With several injury issues emerging over the last few weeks, Klopp's squad is being stretched more than at any time during this season. "We speak in the week, but try to not make it more complicated than it is".

Asked whether that would give Liverpool an advantage over their rivals, Klopp said that depended on how well they made use of the extra preparation time. "That's my preferred rhythm, to be honest".
