But Eilish, bathing her voice in a digital tone, does sing about "watching movies back to back in black and white", seemingly as she mentally exorcises someone from her system. The chorus has the ocean sounds overplayed on it. "We were also able to take sounds like the student protest shouts and Borras barking and turn them into rhythmic percussive elements to help drive the song". But Eilish has adopted the tiniest bits and pieces of the movie on the way to arriving at something that ends up far afield in every way but mood. The new track may not be from Roma's official soundtrack or score, but it has received approval from Cuarón himself. 'When I Was Older' was inspired by the Netflix film ROMA, which has been earning rave reviews globally since its release.

Billie Eilish and the 2018 movie Roma perhaps doesn't sound like the most natural pairing in the world.

Billie Eilish, 17-year-old downbeat sad-pop wunderkind, is primed to be one of 2019's biggest breakout stars. That said, the two actually go great together: Eilish just released "When I Was Older", a new song that's inspired by the movie, and it's pretty neat. Late a year ago, she released the singles "Come Out And Play" and 'When The Party's Over'.

The most personal project to date from Academy Award®-winning director and writer Alfonso Cuarón (Gravity, Children of Men, Y Tu Mama Tambien), ROMA follows Cleo (Yalitza Aparicio), a young domestic worker for a family in the middle-class neighborhood of Roma in Mexico City.
