Starting in a three-way tie with Tony Finau and Henrik Stenson, Rahm took the lead when Finau made bogey on the par-3 eighth hole, and the Spaniard never trailed the rest of the day at Albany Golf Club. Finau's challenge slowed down after the first seven holes and then completely broke down after a double bogey on 14th on the back nine. Of the six titles, three are on PGA Tour, two on European and now the unofficial PGA Tour win at Hero World Challenge. "I started crying when I was shaking his hand because that meant so much to me to play against Tiger".

Woods rounded off his full-season return to competition following his fourth major back surgery with a tired-looking 73 to finish 17th on 287, one shot ahead of Japan's Hideki Matsuyama (75). Clearly, Rahm was pleased with his progress in the first two years of his career. "A couple months later to win his event, this is really special".

Finau did manage to make an impact elsewhere, however, by closing his round with a 10-foot birdie that would see him finish alone in second and consequently prevent Justin Rose from returning to the World No.1 spot. "I just can't putt on Bermuda as I had grown up in Spain on poa annua", said Rahm. He kind of laughed and said, 'It's all about feel out there'.

"It was an incredible year, to go from where I was at this point last year to where I am now", he said. "And today out there with the trophy, he said, "That's a pretty good performance for somebody who can't put putt on Bermuda greens", Rahm smiled.

"To come from where I came from previous year at this point to have the ability to actually play and compete again in the game and do it consistently is quite unbelievable".

"The entire year has been unbelievable and I've just been so blessed to have the opportunity", said the 14-time Major champion, who turns 43 on Dec 30.

"Today is Jon's day", Woods, the tournament host, said at the presentation ceremony, before graciously adding: "He showed us all how the game of golf should be played".
