Prima Games, a longtime mainstay in the printed strategy guide business, is closing its doors for good.

The announcement comes from Prima Games' parent company DK, which has shared its "extremely hard decision" to no longer commission guides and its intention of discontinuing all Prima Games operations by spring 2019. "We are in conversations with the Prima Games team and can not comment on this further at this point". However, the Roseville office will close much earlier than its counterparts in NY and Indianapolis; at some point in mid-November of this year.

Part of the DK publishing group, Prima Games has been releasing in-depth print guides for videogames since its birth in 1990. While a selection of employees at the Indianapolis office will continue to publish content until March.

According to a report from Publishers Marketplace, DK declined to note how many will be affected by this closure, but a look at LinkedIn suggest that Prima Games employed at least 40 people. Prima Games later tried adapting to an increasingly digital world by offering eguides filled with interactive maps, streaming video, searchable apps, and more. Whether a download will become available or whether Penguin Random House will maintain a historical library remains to be seen. This likely means the Super Smash Bros.
